Our Wednesday quiz

Around the year 000, apart from the twelve officially listed tribes of Israel, there are dozens of competing Jewish sects that more or less conform to the precepts of the Torah. It is this “more or less” that irritates the Eternal One. One fateful morning, having got up on the wrong side of the bed, He instructs Moses to pass on to his former darlings the program of the rejoicings to come.

We have compiled a non-exhaustive list of these rejoicings for you. One of them relates to a founding element of the Abrahamic software. Guess which one!

Devarim (Deuteronomy), 28

22. “The Lord shall smite thee with consumption, fever, inflammation, scorching heat, parching, jaundice and gangrene, which shall pursue thee until thou perish.”

27. “The Lord will strike you with the ulcer of Egypt, hemorrhoids, scabies and ringworm, from which you cannot recover.

28. The Lord will strike you with delirium, blindness, wandering of the mind […]”

35. “The Lord will strike you in the knees and thighs with a malignant ulcer from which you cannot recover; he will strike you from the sole of your foot to the top of your head.”

43. “The stranger who will be in your midst will rise higher and higher above you, and you will sink lower and lower;

44. he will lend to you, and you will not lend to him; he will be the head, and you will be the tail.”

61. “And even the Lord will bring upon you, until you are destroyed, all kinds of diseases and plagues that are not mentioned in the book of this law.”

Tariff and conquer

Born in “-384”, Aristotle is sure to have read the Pentateuch and its injunctions to “dominate” the “non-chosen” nations by – among other nuclear weapons – impoverishing them.

Mishlei (Proverbs) 22:7

A rich man will rule over the poor, and a borrower is a slave to a lender”.

And yet, to the Greek polymath as to his master Plato and a few other “non-chosen” ones, the key words of a city (a planet ?) that wishes to endure are and will forever remain “justice” and “friendship”. Certainly not “domination” through what appears to them as a chrematistic aberration, i.e. the urge to make money out of money. According to the author of the sumptuous “De Anima”, this is “an unnatural activity that dehumanizes those who indulge in it”.

The Holy Tariff war the Revd D. Trump has declared on the non-American world is part and parcel of the socio-economic approach Aristotle strongly warns us against. Again according to the inventor of  logic, for any economy – especially a global one – to function properly, it will need to stick to a perennial scale of measurement, enabling « the exchange of use values for the satisfaction of life”.

Bearing in mind that any commodification of this mere transactional medium ultimately leads to the collapse of the said economy.

Happiness on earth

So, you guys want to understand how the world ended up with these Netanyahu, Trump, Putin, Maduro, Al-Sissi, Ayatollahs, Taliban, Cardigan, Ski Jumping or whatever their f* names spell. You guys would like to figure out how 8 billion people, despite their being equipped with the average quantum of neurons, can let themselves be taken for a ride by a bunch of retarded reptilians. You guys would like to guess by what unfortunate chain of events normal persons allow themselves to be starved, bombed, massacred, robbed of their homes, imprisoned, raped and tortured without anybody around but mentioning it in passing (when they do) and then business as usual! You guys are wondering how the hell children are deprived of their childhood and turned into wild animals who, if they escape the horrors inflicted on them, will only retain an infinite desire for vengeance!

And of course, you guys would like like to know if there’s a way out of this mess.

Well, as luck would have it, you guys know how to read and have access to a reader, a tablet or a telephone! And I’ve got just what you need! Released ten days ago for download in e-pub or kindle format, it’s a gem of a book called Homo juchremanensis. Two small hours of reading that might prove worthwhile. For, as the german proverb goes :  “To understand and to be understood makes our happiness on earth.

As good as new!

– Say, Gamble…

– Yes, Procter?

– Our Bonux sales have taken a serious nosedive in recent months, haven’t they?

– Yep! What can we do about it?

– I’ve got an idea, but…

– Go on!

– What if we started a new label? […] Same basic ingredients as for Bonux, same manufacturing plants… All we have to do is come up with some original packaging…

End of interlude. Back to real life. Jerusalem, year 000 minus a few years. The New Testament is underway !

The right move

« Some time around the 6th century before our era, we were given the choice between two diametrically opposed futures. Either the relatively unhindered horizon of a rational thought, with a glimpse at “happiness” on a human scale – a concept ever so new to the thinking of a species hitherto shuffled from bloodthirsty superstitions to delirious pantheons – or the continuation of a tedious prehistory, fraught with treacherous pitfalls. »

I’m not sure we made the right move, you? If the opportunity should arise again, shouldn’t we try and prove a little brighter?
